Is my iPhone 12 radioactive?

In short, the simple answer is ‘No’ despite what you may have heard. So why do we hear people asking, ‘Is my iPhone 12 radioactive?’ Whilst it may be true that French regulators have ordered that the iPhone 12 be taken off shelves in France following testing by the ANFR, the Agence Nationale des Fréquences – according to Wired Magazine, the tests that they ran are significantly more stringent than those run by regulators in other countries such as the Us and the UK.

Their tests relate to radio frequency (RF) measurements, which are used across almost all electronic appliances, including radios, and so is present everywhere too. It is not radioactive and cannot make anything else radioactive either. It only becomes a potential issue when someone is exposed to very high amounts of it. The French test is a little different than most as it measures strength from 0 mm distance whereas many other tests, including those in the UK and the US, tend to measure at a distance of 5mm, making a big difference. In short, we can see no evidence that failing this test would mean that the iPhone 12, when used in the typical way, would present a risk to your health.
